| What is an Authorized Representative? | |
| If you are applying for or are enrolled in
Michigan's Food Assistance Program (FAP), you can choose someone you
trust to shop for your groceries and pay for them using your FAP
benefits. The person who you choose to buy your groceries using your FAP benefits is known as your Authorized Representative. You can choose an Authorized Representative by including his or her name on the Food Assistance Program Application, or by contacting your Family Independence Agency specialist at your local Family Independence Agency office. choose someone as an Authorized Representative?
What
happens when I select an Authorized Representative? Bridge Cards for Authorized Representatives will have your name AND the Authorized Representative's name printed on it. The letters "ARFS" will be printed after the Authorized Representative's name (which stands for Authroized Representatives Food Stamps). You may give this card to your Authorized Representative to keep or you may give this card to your Authorized Representative when he or she is make a trip to the store to buy your groceries. You will also be mailed two Personal Identification Numbers (PINs): one for your Bridge Card and one for your Authorized Representative's Bridge Card. With this card, your Authorized Representative will be able to pay for food using your Food Assistance Program benefits. Word
of Caution: Also, if your Authorized Representative performs fraudulent activity involving your account, it may result in criminal charges against you and your Authorized Representative, and the benefits may be reduced or stopped completely.
