| What is Electronic Benefits Transfer? | |
| Michigan now delivers food assistance
benefits using and Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT). The
federal government has mandated that all states use EBT for food
assistance benefits. When you are enrolled in the Food Assistance Program, you will no longer receive paper stamps. Instead, you will receive a benefit account, similar to a bank account. Each month, your benefits will be automatically deposited into this benefit account. When you want to pay for food using your Food Assistance Program benefits, you will need to use your Bridge Card. The Michigan Bridge Card is similar to a debit or ATM card, and looks like this:
The Bridge Card is a plastic, orange card. Your name and account number will be printed on the front of the card. On the back of the card, you will find a box for your signature and printed name. A customer service number is also printed on the back. You can call this number if you have any problems using your Bridge Card. |
