She left Iowa for Michigan to live near her daughter. The service coordinator where she lives told her about the Michigan Bridge Card and helped her apply for it through MiCAFE. In this brief video, Norma talks about what the Michigan Bridge Card has meant for her. The Michigan Bridge CardThe Bridge Card helps pay for food so seniors can use their cash to buy things like medicine or pay for heat, lights, water or make repairs to their home. MiCAFE, called “My Café,” helps people like Norma who are age 60 or older apply for a Bridge Card! This new program is offered by Elder Law of Michigan and local senior and community centers in 10 Michigan counties (highlighted in red in the map below). Call a center in your area to set up a time to meet. A caring volunteer will sit down with you at the meeting and show you how MiCAFE works. You don’t have to fill out any forms –it’s just one meeting. You can also sign up for health care services at the same time if you like.
