Press Release

Don’t miss out on your pension benefits!

Lansing, MI—Could this be someone you know? In March 2005, a Michigan Wayne County resident, contacted the Michigan Pension Rights Project (MPRP) concerned that he was unable to secure his retirement benefits from his employment at Motor Wheel.

He had left employment in 1995 when the company shut down. At the time he had been given information on how to obtain his retirement benefit at retirement age but had since lost that information. He contacted the MPRP to help him get in touch with the company and get his retirement benefits in pay status.

We were able to locate the company and communicate with them regarding our client’s retirement benefit. We were able to obtain a retirement application and a breakdown of our client’s retirement options. With our help our client and his wife has a total lifetime benefit of $51,721.

Since 1998, the Project has helped thousands of Michigan residents with pension concerns, and recovered $2.25 million in lost pensions.

The Pension Rights Project, an arm of the Legal Hotline for Michigan Seniors, is a program of Elder Law of Michigan, Inc., a nonprofit organization. The MPRP researches and investigates lost pensions and works with retirees, pensioners and their employers to resolve pension issues. However, the MPRP does not represent clients in litigation.

“We provide basic advice about pension laws and rights, information about survivor benefits, defined benefit plans, health care benefits and the pension-related rights of divorced people” states Kate White, Director of Elder Law of Michigan.

The Pension Rights Project provides these services to Michigan retirees of any age at no cost. For pension assistance, call 1-866-735-7737 Monday through Friday from 9 am to 12 pm and 1 pm to 5 pm.
